Well put.

My first visit to the Neuschwanstein castle was an event Hollywood couldn’t possibly match.

I also visited Neuschwanstein Castle when I was in the Army back in the 80's. We'd arrived at the village below the castle fairly early in the day. The transport up the hill wasn't open yet, so our whole group walked up the road to the castle. It was kinda foggy as we walked through the forest. It was early March, and all the leaves were gone from the trees. As we got closer to the top, I looked up.

The fog had thinned a bit...just enough for me to see the faint outline of one of the towers of the castle, along with a bit of the wall. In my head, I could hear the Bach organ tocatta associated with creepy movies.

Even so, it was a lot of fun.

I was totally skeptical about the Blue Grotto at Capri, but was so blown away by it I burst into tears. The kindly boatman—he looked like he'd seen this reaction times before, but he avoided rolling his eyes.
