Covid is just like smallpox, except nowhere near as deadly...oh, and it mutates forever and is endemic.

Coronaviruses are responsible for ~20% of annual ‘colds’, and we've never come up with a vaccine or other approaches that effectively prevent ‘colds’. Yet Fauci and others thought it was a good idea to take species from this viral family that were incapable of infecting human cells - and give them the capacity to do so.

It was NOT a good idea, despite their protestations to the contrary, AND it was an even worse idea to fund this research in China.

Whatever the exact numbers are, millions have died because of Covid, people have suffered economically, lives and dreams have been shattered, and the political course of the world has been altered, all because of a virus that almost certainly was the result of scientific naiveté and hubris manifested as gain of function research in a Chinese virology institute with links to the Chinese military.

Still, few speak about this, the Chinese government has been unscathed, and Fauci has become a pop culture icon for our superficial society.

And smallpox doesn't have an animal reservoir, as SARS-COV-2 does. But, yep, other than that, the two are exactly the same. :-)
