A 16-time convicted felon has received probation after being charged with stealing purses from a 74-year-old cancer patient and a nurse at Northwestern Memorial Hospital as the COVID pandemic swept into the city last year.
Prosecutors initially charged Darryl Berry, 59, with multiple counts of theft and identity theft for the crimes that allegedly took place in April and June 2020. Berry was arrested at Northwestern after hospital security recognized him on the premises in August last year.
In the first theft, while the hospital had limited staffing and few visitors due to the COVID pandemic, Berry entered the hospital cafeteria and used his foot to pull a nurse’s purse away from her as she ate lunch, prosecutors said. Surveillance cameras recorded the incident.
Two months later, Berry returned to the cafeteria, removed the elderly cancer patient’s purse from her chair, and walked out of the building, prosecutors said. The bag contained a $6,000 gold and diamond necklace, $100 cash, and credit cards. Video surveillance at a Loop convenience store allegedly showed Berry using the woman’s credit card to purchase $98 worth of merchandise about an hour after the theft.
Now, Berry has pleaded guilty to two counts of theft in connection with the crimes at Northwestern. Prosecutors dropped an aggravated identity theft case involving the elderly victim.
Judge Aleksandra Gillespie sentenced Gillespie to serve two years probation and perform 30 hours of community service.
Berry was on parole at the time of the incidents for identity theft of a victim over age 60, theft from person, and felony theft. Records show he served only half of his six-year sentence before the state released him from prison.
Before Berry’s those prison sentences, he was incarcerated for:
4 years for theft in 2012 3 years for theft from person in 2010 3 years for retail theft in 2005 a concurrent 4 years for theft from person in 2005 3 years for retail theft in 2003 2 years for theft in 2002 30 months for theft from person in 2001 2 years for narcotics in 1998 2 years for forgery in 1995 4 years for theft in 1993 2 years for theft in 1979
Yet another example of criminal, democrat taliban party government.
He was getting reparations in his own way, or something.
But that B restorative justice.
No mention of his Amish connections.
Soros prosecutors...Soros judges. You just gotta love ‘em!
“This is special”
This is INSANITY . . . .just part of the plan to take us to third world status.
The only way to reduce crime is to keep criminals incarcerated where they can’t commit more crimes.
I guess he’s just stealing the limelight.
They want the guy to set a record for most convictions evah.
It’s not important who gets hurt in the meantime.
And Mayor lighthead wonders why Chicago’s a hellhole?
The judge sentencing herself to serve out the sentence is the most over the top thing I've heard of yet.
Glad I was on I-88 driving by. Cannot imagine how long people were stuck on Cermak and Route 83 trying to get by there to get home yesterday.
One of my GF's friends and her two sons were at the movie complex at Oakbrook Mall. They were all forced to exit the theatre hands in the air while the police were searching for the shooter. Yes they were all searched too.
That hellhole is being exported out to the suburbs now. Gang bangers following each other out of the city and shooting each other where ever they can now.
Had one yesterday at Oakbrook Mall, in Oakbrook, IL yesterday. It's a pretty high-end area. We're at the point here in Hellinois that if you see someone who's black, just get the hell away from them because you don't know if someone's going to try shooting them and you don't want to get caught in the line of fire.
(Anyone who calls me a racist for that can go eff themselves. That's really how bad it's getting here.)
59 year old Darryl Berry
Ping to the above.
And people ask me why we never leave our home with being armed.
L
Ditto that.
What's amazing is that it took them this long to figure that one out.
And black democrats have discovered people are afraid to racially profile because they're branded racist - which has been used as tool by white liberal 'elites' and black poverty pimps (overseers on the democrat plantation) to give criminals a pass.
You don't like what's happening - and either do traditional Americans living in Englewood in Chicago who happen to be black. They've had to put up with these thugs longer than you have...
Step one is to unite against democrat criminals and unite against white liberal elites who pay to elect prosecutors who let black and white democrat criminals out of jail before their victims are out of the hospital.
It's impossible to address this problem if everyone's afraid of being called a racist - or afraid of treating fellow citizens differently because of the color of their skin. Not an easy needle to thread.
So first - don't be afraid to notice most (if not all) of the gang bangers coming out of Chicago are black. If they're mostly black democrats in your community that are the criminals - coming in from Chicago that needs to be said. Recruit traditional decent black citizens in your community to our side - pass out MEGA hats. It's a joint battle. They don't want criminals in their neighborhoods either.
Traditional black citizens need to redefine their criminal problems too. THEY are not part of it. They don't need to defend it.
I would hate to be a member of a minority group with such a bad reputation if all I was doing was trying to go to work every day and supporting my family. One out of every six black men voted for Trump. We're on the same team.
The bad guys are democrat criminals of all colors and the good guys are traditional Americans of all colors.
The only good thing to come of this latest crime horror is white liberal elites in suburbs might realize having THEIR stores hit isn't 'fun to watch or that bolsters their democrat power' and THEY might join with us to 'get real about criminals'...
Not sure where you live, clearly you know about Englewood. There's also Auburn-Gresham right next to it that's just as bad.
I took the Metra commuter train through both those neighborhoods for almost 30 years every Monday - Friday. I saw the war zones both are. I get it: there are people "stuck" living there because they cannot afford to go anywhere else. They're not the problem, unless you count them as they won't help the police. They know who the shooters are, but because they hate the police and the "snitches get stitches" (or worse) mentality running through those neighborhoods nothing will ever get better.
The rest of your post, I agree 1000% with. I've never given a damn' about being called a racist for anything. The truth is the truth, period. Don't like it? Too bad, so sad. Do something about it.
BTW, I live near Orland Square Mall. This time of year the Orland Park police have a paddy wagon parked at the mall. you can literally watch the string of people getting arrested and put in it. When it's full, off it goes and a second comes to take its place.
The worst thing that ever happened to Orland Park is the RTA busses from Joliet going to the mall. Crime skyrocketed. The mall sucks. People get robbed in the parking lot. Carjackings, burglaries and more happen here now. Thankfully I live in an area with retired LEO's and Firemen. We're all armed to the teeth and watch out for each other.
BTW I'm dead serious about not being anywhere near anyone who's black when I go grocery shopping or have to be out 'n about places. We have to keep our heads on a swivel these days. I don't want to be a casualty of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I even taught my GF of the past three years to shoot, get her FOID and she'll be taking conceal/carry classes in the new year. We'll both be armed. There's just NFW I'm going to get taken out by one of these gang bangers without going down fighting myself.
Eff 'em and anyone else who takes offense to that.
And Merry Christmas!
