Sen. Ted Cruz may be cruising toward another bid at the presidency.
In an interview with the Truth Gazette, Cruz was asked if he would consider running for the White House, and the Texas Republican said his race in 2016 puts him in a good position to win the GOP nomination.
"Absolutely, in a heartbeat. You know I ran in 2016. It was the most fun I've ever had in my life," he said. "I ended up placing second. You know, there's a reason historically that the runner-up is almost always the next nominee."
Cruz lost his bid for the Republican nomination to Donald Trump in 2016, but he finished second in terms of delegates.
He faced a bitter contest with Trump in the waning days of the election cycle. At one point, Trump attacked Cruz's wife and his father. As a result, Cruz initially declined to endorse Trump at the Republican National Convention.
However, he ultimately endorsed Trump several months later over Hillary Clinton in the general election and became an ally of Trump in the Senate.
Numerous second-place finishers went on to gain their party's nomination in subsequent races. Examples include Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Hillary Clinton.

Plus the argument for obama and harris is they were born here, although to foreigners who bequeathed them foreign citizenships, Cruz doesn’t even have that.
The USC 8 citizen claiming to be a natural born citizen and eligible to run for POTUS is at it again.
That isn’t the reason
Are Anwar al-Awlaki’s kids, born in Yemen to one citizen parent, natural born citizens?
The vitriol that gets dumped on Cruz here has nothing to do with that argument. Nothing. Take a look a post 6. Are you telling me that post comes from some high minded constitutional argument? Cruz was in lock step with Trump during the entire term. Did he in all those 4 years ever pull the kind of back stabbing shit that Romney, Cheney, Kinzinger or McCain engaged in?
No, he didn’t.
You left out McConnell, Grahamnesty, Tillis, Ernst, Capito, Cassidy, Cornyn, Sasse and Rounds from the backstabber list, all endorsed by Trump in 2020.
Cruz could be a great Senator if he kept his mind on that and gave up his ambition to violate the Constitution.
Yeah sorry Cruz. I want to vote for someone that can actually accomplish something other than win Twitter battles. Worthless.
So you honestly believe every one of Trump’s foibles was planned and only fools think he was serious? You are the type of person W. C. Fields spoke of. If you are correct, than Trump is comedian in desperate need of a straight man. His timing sucks. In case you are unsure, I am not suggesting Trump is gay.
The shtick clearly worked on you. Trump says lots of things in jest, and people like you seem unable to deal with it or even interpret it.
So sad for you, it’s Trump in ‘24!
Ya sound like you're broadcasting for CNN. It's called standing up for yourself, unlike what we got with decades of Republicans who went right along with the Democrats and most wouldn't say a word when they were getting politically gang banged.
It seems you consider Trump fighting back to be motivated by ego. You're wrong.
I assume you are not a bigot.
You have no reason, only false assumptions about Trump, me, et al.
He doesn’t have the personality to be an effective presidential candidate. He should look to replace McConnell if possible. (Seniority issues aside!) Another problem I have heard he’s thoroughly disliked by his GOP colleagues so even reaching for majority leader would be a tough row to hoe!
I’ve always thought SC justice would be the ideal position for him.
My religious devotion to Trump?
Tell me, in this era, who’s a better leader than Trump? Name them.
You are one of those who think Trump is playing 3D Chess while the rest of us mortals are just too backwards to comprehend Trump. Trump shot himself in the foot politically a number of times. He either did not listen to advisors or had bad advisors.
You think everyone but you falls into Trump's little traps while the truth is we see Trump for what he is. A flawed individual who made unforced errors and sincerely hope that if he has a second term he does not repeat the same mistakes. As a realist I am concerned that his ego will cause him to repeat his mistakes. Like Trump supporting his vaccines, but will never look at data that indicates the vaccines have serious issues and have killed people. He did some great things for the economy and the military, and he was fought every step of the way. However, he also is not politically astute enough to know when to suppress his ego. But to you Trump is perfect and therefore you are almost religiously devoted to him.
Specify the era.
For cripes sake, can you read? This era, right here, right now.
You have no clue what I think. Comments like that make ya sound like a 9 year old girl.
Where do you get this bull shit?
Lets try one more time with this pertinent legitimate question, which you seem to be ducking, dodging and evading.
