Ted Cruz says he would run for president again 'in a heartbeat'
Washington Examiner ^ | December 23, 2021 | Ryan King

Sen. Ted Cruz may be cruising toward another bid at the presidency.

In an interview with the Truth Gazette, Cruz was asked if he would consider running for the White House, and the Texas Republican said his race in 2016 puts him in a good position to win the GOP nomination.

"Absolutely, in a heartbeat. You know I ran in 2016. It was the most fun I've ever had in my life," he said. "I ended up placing second. You know, there's a reason historically that the runner-up is almost always the next nominee."

Cruz lost his bid for the Republican nomination to Donald Trump in 2016, but he finished second in terms of delegates.

He faced a bitter contest with Trump in the waning days of the election cycle. At one point, Trump attacked Cruz's wife and his father. As a result, Cruz initially declined to endorse Trump at the Republican National Convention.

However, he ultimately endorsed Trump several months later over Hillary Clinton in the general election and became an ally of Trump in the Senate.

Numerous second-place finishers went on to gain their party's nomination in subsequent races. Examples include Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Hillary Clinton.

I am not alone.

One thing is certain - I’ll be staying the hell away from threads on this subject this time around.

We do not want someone on the Supreme Court who thinks Anwar al-Awlaki’s kids, born in Yemen to one citizen parent, are natural born citizens eligible to be President.

If he is, they are.

Ted better be prepared for the charge that his father helped to conspire with the assassination of JFK.

I agree, Cruz would be better on SCOTUS. He would also be a perfect VP for Trump. Cruz is a pitbull, not a very popular pitbull but one nonetheless. He could be Trump's attack dog leaving Trump to behave more Presidential the second time around.

DeSantis would be a better choice as a VP because he would have the ability to win after Trump's term. People vote the top of the ticket, nobody votes for a ticket because of the VP. Even a DeSantis/Cruz ticket would be a winner over Biden/Harris or most RAT tickets.

Cruz is Hispanic and they are currently trending more conservative than in the past. Cruz as a VP could, maybe, bring in even more Hispanic votes. However, I am not sure if he is bilingual? If I were going to go for a Hispanic I would want one with strong ties to the Hispanic community. Noem does not look as politically good as she did a year ago. No way in hell would I go for Haley as a VP either. Christie is an idiot's idiot and Bush is just another "Bush league" Bush. None of the above except for DeSantis as VP could win after the Trump Presidency. GOP does not a lot to choose from right now hence Cruz is still in play as a VP.

I didn’t like his Dominionist routine, and the blame Trump for Chicago, his behavior at the GOP Convention...meh.

Cruz is a fine Senator, but he is an uncharismatic policy dork. He doesn’t have the skill set to be president.

He would be a better Senator if he gave up his pursuit of his own usurpation, he needs to keep his focus on being Senator.

Yes. Agreed. He needs to focus on being senator. I’m glad he’s a senator and hope he will continue there along his current political path

You are correct that most do not vote for the VP, but I will not vote for Trump if he picks the ineligible Cubanadian.

I would slot Cruz as AG; replaced in the Senate by Alan West.

I think a Trump/Cruz ticket would be a powerhouse. Pence was a disappointment.
