Williams Formula One driver Nicholas Latifi said that he has received death threats for his involvement in the controversial finish of the championship-deciding season finale in Abu Dhabi. Latifi crashed with five laps to go, which led to a safety car period and decisions by the race director that erased the commanding lead held by Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton and set up a pass to claim the win and title by Red Bull's Max Verstappen on a final green flag lap.

Been watching English Premiership rugby for the last several years. Shots into the stands show fans from the different teams sitting next to one another enjoying the game. Soccer fans have to be separated by fences. How can the fan bases be so different?

I don't know about this particular case, but I know 'death threats' are the newest form of 'fake hate crimes.

The real victim of fake hate crimes and 'fake death threats is traditionally conservatives... those lies made a pity party available for the creepiest liberals to wallow in...

And today the same is done with 'death threats' ...I'm guessing over 90% of them are generated by liberals trying to gin up pity and rage for their side.

I think most Hamilton fans are his fans not primarily because of his skills, and were probably not F1 fans before he started in F1.

Par for the course in spectator sports these days. Like most things in life one can enjoy sports in a pleasant and fun manner or go overboard and make it decidedly unpleasant. I used to follow all this when I was young but no longer care beyond checking the results afterwards. No longer invested to insane levels in any of it.
