Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) said on Tuesday she is open to discussing proposals to overhaul an expanded child tax credit included in President Biden's American Rescue Plan that is set to expire in the next few days.

“I am open to proposals that would support working families and reduce childhood poverty and look forward to working with colleagues of both parties on bipartisan solutions,” Collins said in a statement to the Bangor Daily News.

If the expanded child tax credit is allowed to expire, monthly payments will end for the families of about 60 million children.

The Daily News noted that roughly 90 percent of children of Collins's home state of Maine qualify for the child tax credit.

Earlier this month, Collins indicated that she was open to finding a way to maintain the tax credit with some changes made to it.

90% of her state's children qualify... thats a lot of poverty!

No more welfare for unwed single women who "choose" to have a kid.

The Assistant Democrats are more useful in their R jersey camouflage.

I grow weary of the phrase “working families.”

No doubt she’ll sell us out on this one, too

This is all about pushing more women into the workforce and letting state or union bureaucrats raise & indoctrinating kids. That’s all this is.

Yet another government “aid” program that, once it gets in place, ultimately means anyone who tries to end it will be vilified for “taking food out of the mouths of children!”

I don’t want to offend anyone by this crude remark but...
Just one more stroke and this sellout wouldn’t be any trouble in the future, she can barely talk now.

My daughter has a household income of $140K. I was floored when I learned she is getting $500 per month in child tax credit. This is vote buying. Also, by including more families it is harder to cancel. I could see this program being limited to, say, $50K family income.

Should just send each child one million dollars. Why put them at risk of not being a millionaire with all the social and emotional trama that accompanies that?

If the expanded child tax credit is allowed to expire, monthly payments will end for the families of about 60 million children.

Pretty sure the monthly payments would be ending anyway, whether the expansion expired or not.
And, the credit would still be there - it'd just be $2M per child, not $3M per and $3600 if under six, like it was last year.

Note that Trump bumped it up to the $2M mark with his Tax Cut Act in 2017, prior to that it was a mere $1M per kid, and non-refundable.

Re: “CHILDHOOD POVERTY”-—

NONE of these kids are mine..

None are the kids of many of us.

Breeding more children you cannot afford to feed DOES NOT BECOME MY PROBLEM just because you wish it so.

Clean up your own life & leave me out of YOUR CIRCUS...

Especially since you want me to fund it all.
