I suspect Omicron will give us herd immunity. Vaccine from God.
That idea is being promoted by a lot of media and some CDC news releases but it doesn't make sense scientifically.
So far there are limited reports of Omicron infection providing immunity to Delta infection. The article you posted says the reverse does not happen, which suggests that the two viruses are different enough that they require different immune system responses.
It is unlikely that one virus "chokes off" another one, since viruses don't attack each other (like mammals, or birds and insects in some cases) and they are unlikely to run out of chances to replicate.
It is actually hard to see the science that would support the arrival of one virus causing another to become less prevalent. Does anybody think, as an example, that there is less flu around if there is also some other cold virus around at the same time?
A lot of what is being said in the media about Omicron seems to have little scientific basis.
It is a matter of much cross immunity there really is between Omicron and Delta.
Previous COVID strains “choked off” others, by getting to hosts first, and imparting strong cross immunity.
So far, it looks like the cross immunity with Omicron is weaker than other strains - but still pretty strong

It is amazing how the Governments know which variant everyone has even though the PCR test was never designed to detect whether or not someone has Covid or what strain of covid it is.
Hospitals do not even have the test equipment to determine the Covid strain. The only way they can keep track of the strains is because the Governments are following a release schedule.

How could there be any data on that? To determine cross immunity from Omicron to other variants you need to look at how many of the population of Omicron survivors get another variant subsequently. Where is that group of people, since the Omicron variant was supposedly just discovered a couple of weeks ago?
The “science” actually DOES support the concept that an immune response to a portion of the virus (spike) can lessen the effect of a similar virus. You need to go back to medical school...

Presumably you have some scientific education. Explain for us how the arrival of a new variant of COVID-19 would immediately reduce the rate at which other variants are infecting people. In other words, how does Omicron cause a drop off in Delta cases. I think we can all see how it would become larger going forward if it was more successful, but that would mean that the number of delta cases wouldn't necessarily decline, but that the Omicron cases would be a larger portion of the total number of cases.
Put another way what mechanism would cause the total number of infections from COVID variants not to be a linear combination (e.g. they add together) measured across the population as a whole? The only obvious coupling would be immunity from one variant reducing the chance of infection and transmission by another variant. Given the time frame, and how few people have gotten and recovered from Omicron in the USA, how would immunity gained from Omicron be reducing Delta variant infections already?
Show us all how Omicron can "choke off" Delta cases before any significant number of people have developed antibodies to Omicron.

As to your questions about education, if that is all you have to argue, instead of making a point based on data, then you clearly either don't have the knowledge, or are too lazy to do what I asked. Simply show how the existing number of infections with Omicron could reduce the number of infections happening from Delta given that essentially nobody in the USA has recovered from Omicron and subsequently been exposed to Delta.

Have you actually even looked at data? Such as the DATA from South Africa where Omicron has been “raging” for nearly a month? Have you listened to the REAL doctors there who have been treating this? Look at the “death rate” in SA compared to previous “surges”.

And IN FACT, cowpox virus was injected INTO people in order to VACCINATE them against smallpox. That was indeed the first instance of true vaccination.

Not directly yet, but by gauging how much the cross immunity relationship works the other way - How much does prior COVID infection protect from Omicron?
So far, it seems that those who had previous infections with other strains, are better protected for Omicron than are the vaccinated. The “breakthrough” rate of Omicron infection among those who had been previously infected is higher than it has been with other strains - but not too bad.
I have heard some estimates that 5% to 15% of Omicron cases are among those previously infected.
One thing is completely clear, as a poster on a different web site said:
