A lot of people say they found Free Republic via the Drudge Report. I've always wondered, how did y'all find the Drudge Report?

Fyi, I never heard of Drudge until I got on FR. Found FR through Robby Noel on 1360 KHNC out of Johnstown CO.

I Googled "Monica Lewinski" at the end of January of 1999, and Drudge Report came up at the top of the list.

I found the Drudge Report through Mr. Drudge himself. I was in DC pcsing out of the military at the time of the Clinton Impeachment protests in late 1998. Walked downtown and was watching Lind Tripp talk on stage.

Some guy in a fedora started chatting with me and we had a nice conversation about this and about the anti-abortion family just across from us. They had 12 children and had set up a real nice display on the horrors of abortion. He introduced himself, we finally parted ways, and then his name came up in the reporting. That is literally all I know about Matt Drudge.

I took the anti-abortion family out to dinner at a local steak house/buffet on Hwy1 after that. They ate a lot and the children were able to handle some very decent levels of conversation. Great family.

Matt Drudge used to post on Usenet news groups, back before his web site was a thing. That eventually led me to his web site, and from there I found FR, as well as several other web sites/forums which I still read. I no longer read Drudge, however.

I found Drudge when he broke the Lewinski scandal. I found FR on Drudge. I have not been back to Drudge since he went liberal. I dropped out of FR for about 5 years when the religious wars overwhelmed the rest of the content. I guess Trump's election brought me back. The flame wars seem to have subsided for the most part.

I found the Drudge Report via an article in the Washington Post. This was when Drudge was getting 17,000 hits a day. His website was a sensation in Hollywood where he lived at the time. He worked at a CBS gift shop (or one of the networks) and discovered someone had thrown a note/message/email in the gift shop's wastebasket. I don't remember the contents, but it involved one of the players in Hollywood.

He decided to "report" the content on his website. Hollywood noticed and started to feed him information about who, what and where in Hollywood - much of it business news - who was going to direct the next Batman movie before the studio was able to announce it, along with gossip. That's how he started.

I thought his website was unique and I started to look at it every day and watched it change to more news and political news.

I think the writer too easily dismisses Drudge. He is still one of the biggest websites around and still packs a punch.
