What could possibly go wrong there?
Absolutely nothing. Anyone who wants to do something nefarious with a gun wouldn’t tell the cops about it anyway. The requirement was simply another gotcha to use against peaceable citizens.
DoodleTroll says: “...would also end the requirement that individuals inform police officers that they’re carrying a concealed weapon.
What could possibly go wrong there?”
The answer? Nothing. Most States don’t have a duty to inform requirement.
Of course if DoodleTroll were actually informed, she would know that.
The prudent policy is assuming everyone you meet has a natural right to self defense, may have a concealed weapon, and do nothing to antagonize anyone. When acting in a legal capacity to question , confront,or stop a person be prepared to respond appropriately should the other person be armed.
Politeness and respect with situational awareness.
Nothing. I’ve been pulled over once while carrying. I told the officer I had my pistol in a holster between my seats. All he said was, “hey, thanks for telling me” I’ve had people tell me that the police have asked them if they are carrying before they ask anything else.
The police KNOW before they get out of their car weather or not you have a CCL. They always run the plates first.
This was just a way to ‘get’ someone if they forgot to tell an officer soon enough abut a gun.
