The lone Black juror on the panel that convicted Jussie Smollett of lying to Chicago police about what authorities say was a staged hate crime says he cannot get past how the actor put a noose around his neck when officers were coming to interview him
The only Black juror on the panel that convicted Jussie Smollett of lying to Chicago police said he couldn't get past what the actor did not do after he claimed attackers looped a noose around his neck: Rip it off and keep it off.
If others saw the noose as Smollett's clumsy effort to portray his attackers as racist, Andre Hope saw much more.
“As an African American person, I'm not putting that noose back on at all, " Andre Hope told WLS-TV. At trial, Smollett testified that after the attack in downtown Chicago in January 2019, he returned home and put the rope back around his neck so police who came to his apartment soon after could see it.

I doubt they could find many blacks in the jury pool who didn’t already have their minds made up
I’m sure the number of blacks actually seated will be a main part of any appeal
Gotta give him credit for saying the obvious. I wouldn’t either. He’s probably catching heat for saying it too and not playing into the narrative he was expected to play into.

Keep in mind he staged this because the studio didn’t take hate mail seriously - But it appears he also faked the hate mail.
He put it back on because it was a prop. From the beginning, the purpose of the prop was to have it around his neck for “shock” effect. But nobody looks at a tiny noose from a piece of laundry line and gasps, “oh my god, a noose”! It’s the equivalent of a pop-tart gun.
I doubt he’s catching any heat. Nobody would want to wear a noose. Not just Black people. I knew a guy who was supposedly swallowed by a tractor just from his neck scarf.
I wonder if the defense attorneys asked potential jurors if they had seen Dave Chappelle’s bit about “Juicy Smoleyay”.

The juror thinks unrepentant, unapologetic Juicy should not get jail time? And hopes he could resume his career like nothing happened? Unreal.
Not in the community, he wasn’t expected to. See Friday’s Gutfeld. Blacks were making fun of this from the getgo.

Quite a few farmers and others working with large rotating shafts have met their end once a loose sleeve or clothes was grabbed by the spinning machinery.
Some of the lucky ones merely lost an arm.
One of my past jobs the required company ties were absolutely forbidden by the job site manager due to the ease of such tragedy. Short sleeve,no rings,no gloves unless machine locked out and ALL power deactivate.
