Putin Wants 'Immediate' Talks With NATO On Russia's Security

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that he wants "immediate" talks with the United States and NATO over security guarantees, as tensions soar between Moscow and the West over Ukraine.

The US and its allies have for weeks accused Russia of planning an invasion of its neighbour, warning of a massive coordinated sanctions response should Putin launch an attack.

Tens of thousands of Russian troops are stationed near the borders of ex-Soviet Ukraine, where the West has accused the Kremlin of backing pro-Moscow separatists since 2014.

In a phone call with the Finnish president -- whose country has traditionally served as middle ground between Russia and the West -- Putin said he wanted security talks to begin without delay.

Since Russia is no longer an ideological competitor, as they were under the Soviets, I do not see the reason for continuing to treat them as if they are. Can someone explain this to me?

Putin wants to test NATO’s resolve now that he knows that America has none.

You’re right in stating that our rivalry with Russia is no longer ideological, as such.

Our rivalry with Russia is that they are a feudal organized crime syndicate. As such, they are thieves, murderers, extortionists, vice and contraband peddlers and control freaks — always attempting to expand their turf.

Organized crime is corrupt and a corrupting influence to any and all who come within its purvue.

These are adequate motivations for free people to want to restrain them, in my view.

None of which may adequately explain NATO’s reasoning.

Putin needs to be cut down to his small size.

Simple, obvious answer. Wins the prize.

Free people my ass. We are more Soviet than Russia. Our Gov. could care less about our border. Why should we give a damn about the Ukrainian border!!!

Putin in a room full of NATO leaders (including Xiden) will be like a mountain lion in a cage full of jackrabbits...

I’m inclined to agree with you. If we really want to restrain an imperial power in the march, we’ll confront China. It’s all those things and it’s got a whole lot more money.

Europeans will have to stand up to the Russians. It’s their backyard. Not ours.

Why aren’t climate activists demanding we carpet bomb China’s hundreds of new coal power plants?

Perhaps - just maybe - the climate is not their primary concern?

Nah

The Russia thing is a ruse. The disparate treatment of China is proof.

Good point. However, China is a communist country and much more in line with our leftist authoritarian Government.

Thanks for the rebuke. It was very mature and well reasoned. I needed that.
