RUSSIA has threatened to deploy intermediate range nuclear missiles in Europe, as tensions over Ukraine intensify.
The warning from the country’s foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov comes amid fears of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, where the Kremlin has massed 175,000 troops.
Vladimir Putin has been warned of “massive consequences” if he invades Ukraine as Russia masses troops on its neighbour’s border.
Ryabkov has now threatened to revive Intermediate-range nuclear missiles, deployed in large numbers by both sides in the Cold War in the early 1980s.
He denied Russia was planning to invade Ukraine said Moscow would “respond militarily” if Nato sought to expand eastwards.
Speaking to the state-run RIA Novost he warned “there will be confrontation, this will be the next step" and previously banned weapons “will appear from our side”.
“They don’t exist now, we have a unilateral moratorium,” he added.
When they were first deployed, the missiles brought the cities of Europe into much closer striking range, adding an even more terrifying dimension to the nuclear arms race.

Nonense.
Let the Euros and Russians fight it out between them. Let them nuke each other, and not us.
We've been weaponizing Ukraine and using it to pester the Russians since Obama was in office. I have no idea why.
Meanwhile, we continue to ignore the real threat -- China.
Russians are actually pretty stupid.
It’s almost 2022 and they are threatening thermonuclear war over a backwater breakaway republic in eastern europe. Ivan is a clown and a jerk, always has been.
The Sun is a British news isn’t it?
i think it’s the ports they need.
No idea why? It’s the Biden crime family...Grifters. Let’s Go Brandon!
Seems like a good distraction for China to take advantage of and move on Taiwan.
Good for Russia and everyone as this move will probably prevent a world war, and perhaps Europe can learn a bit of a lesson that having a big mouth is useless unless you can back up what you demand.
I think they want a sea port that is accesible year-round. With Ukraine they would have open access to the Black Sea.
Yeah, sure. I agree let the euros and the Russians fight it out. Unless of course the Russians can somehow hit DC. That would be appreciated.
Do we know if any of this is true? This sounds like more Fear Mongering and Deep State trying it’s best too rekindle the Cold War.
If Russia wants Europe they can have it.
“Russians are actually pretty stupid. It’s almost 2022 and they are threatening thermonuclear war over a backwater breakaway republic in eastern europe. “
If that’s stupid, we are doing the same thing. And at least the Russians live right next door and are getting mad about NATO pushing right up to their border. We are doing it from the other side of the world and just screwing with them.
Our congressfools put direct US/Russian war and even nuclear war on the table last week.
Clowns and jerks, and always have been.
“Ivan is a clown and a jerk, always has been.”
He’s a clown with several thousand nuclear weapons.

Isn’t there an IRBM ban treaty.
Smart enough to make trouble, but not enough to resolve things peacefully.
It's not sincere threatening.
It is more accurately characterized as trolling.
The Russians know that Biden is a pantywaist, that the U.S. is a "paper tiger." They want to force him to back down and admit, "Hey, the U.S. has no intention of fulfilling its treaty obligations in the region."
Regards,
Where is the Russian-held / de facto Russian Crimean Peninsula located?
Regards,
I understand but this would greatly expand their territorial waters and allow them to get a foothold into Romania or Bulgaria.
Then please don't frame this as "Well, Russia needs to acquire just one more ice-free, deep-water port" or "Well, Russia just wants to avoid a SIXTH Nato country from popping up on its borders."
Don't "minimize" it!
Instead, you should simply openly admit that Russia is an expansionistic empire bent on dominating its corner of the world / re-establishing the Soviet Union.
