You might want to rethink that comment. Remember it is a govt form, so it is very intrusive, complicated and requires a lot of the parents' information, e.g. complete financial status, sources of income, SSN, etc... . My wife filled out our kids' forms and she spent hours, cursing the whole way. She does our taxes (many forms due to multiple different sources of income and investments), so she is not new to bureaucratic forms.
Due to the information required, I do not think a kid could fill out the form, much less correctly.
And the bottom line is that it’s none of their business unless you wish to get a loan. This is unconscionable as a high school graduation requirement. About like taxing you on the act of not buying health insurance. I’m embarrassed for Texas.
My 19 YO son's in for a shock, he'll be filing his income tax return in a few months. If he comes to me, I'll help him out, but I'm not doing it for him.
