Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has accused stores of not taking adequate measures to prevent themselves from being victims of crime.
During a crime summit on Monday at the University of Illinois in Chicago, Lightfoot said she was disappointed with stores on Michigan Avenue, a popular shopping and tourist destination. She said they were not making security a priority and taking adequate measures to prevent theft.

Screw it then. Shoplifters will be shot on sight. That ought to end most of it, real quick.
So now it is on the store owners and shopkeepers? What exactly does the mayor do and why is she needed then?
If stores were permitted to use any means necessary to stop theft, the theft would stop.
Lori forbids it.
What's the point of cameras? They are an after-the-fact security measure. They'll (maybe) show you who robbed you. Any deterrent value they have is gone when the thieves can simply wear a mask (may even be mandated to wear a mask!). Even if they are identified, how many are prosecuted vs just turned loose again?
...locking up their merchandise at night...
Again, what's the point when increasingly robberies are organized daytime smash-and-grabs committed by multiple perpetrators?
...chaining high-end bags. These purses seem to be something that is attracting a lot of organized retail theft units."
"Organized retail theft units..." Like, "organized crime?" Gosh, that sounds like a job for police, not a security guard or cashier.
Stores, in general, have security measures in place adequate for the threat. If you de-fund or otherwise eviscerate police, tie their hands, tie the hands of security, fail to prosecute and incarcerate criminals... You get a sudden increase in threat level. Stores will need to react to this new reality created by a worthless Mayor. Perhaps their best move would be to move - leave the city.
When is Chicago going to get rid of this ghastly science experiment?
She wants the shop keepers Rittenhoused.
I hate to say it, but I agree with old Groot here.
In this post civilized age, the cops will not help you. If you are a shop owner, they will work against you. So you need to protect your shop, your home, and your life yourself.
That leads down some interesting paths that Groot probably hasn’t thought through. They used to call them Vigilance Committees.
That worked in LA.
Why do Chicago Retailers pay taxes ?
they pay taxes that are suppose to go towards policing!!!!
instead its going to free condoms, free drugs, free crap of every kind to the losers and criminals!
So typical of a brain damaged libtard; put the onus of preventing theft on the VICTIMS. How about telling your criminal buddies not to steal? Lightfoot is screwed up from her toes to the top of her head, entirely bereft of the most basic moral teaching: DO NOT STEAL.
Soon to be nothing but myth and memory.
Let Chicago shopkeepers respond with 230-grain-hollow-point doses of the Lord’s justice. Here endeth long criminal rap sheets.
well, they could start shooting the thugs...
And if they actually used the measures she suggested- locking up high-end items, having more security guards, etc- she would accuse them of racism.
Put some ice on that.
Hell yeah…you retailers should issue an AR and 5 30rnd mags to every employee…c’mon man…
“Security” in her mind is paying extortion money.
One has to remember that retailers have no way to respond to Lightfoot. This is Chicago. Any attempt to criticize the administration will bring down a myriad of bureaucrats citing your establishment with any number of obscure regulations leading to fines.
Stores have found this out during elections when they merely posted signs supporting the opposition.
It needs to become a literal desert. Maybe the only stores that should be open for business would be liquor stores owned by Koreans with shotguns. Everything else should be closed.
