A more accurate description of this event is more that people are finally not accepting a bad job and leaving to look for other things. Companies are going to have to get creative again to draw people to their companies.
Your quote should be the article. There are a lot of people who were cubicle dwellers that got an extended taste of not being a cubicle dweller. Many found they could be productive at home, and do not relish the thought of returning to an office with all of its interpersonal drama and poisoned politics. I've been there and done that and will do everything possible never to return to it.

I've been there and done that and will do everything possible never to return to it. In my office, the only real office politics has been the COVID-19 politics, and the authoritarians came out of the woodwork. I've told my supervisor I'm not going back to the office until I can go to the bathroom without a mask and without disclosing my medical history.
I may be working from home for the rest of my career...
