It’s entirely possible the gun misfired. Over time, hastened by neglect of routine cleaning and lubrication, mechanical devices wear out.
The real question is how the hell did a single live round get into a stage prop, and in a position in the magazine so as to be directly under the hammer the next time somebody pulled the trigger?
There’s conflicting information about the cinematographer...in early reports, pre-spin doctors, she was reported as having given him notice that she was quitting the project and in fact her film crew were packing up all their gear. As well as reports of locals having been hired. All that has been swept under the rug.
Her walk off would have had a major impact on scheduling and running costs. Several comments had been made that money was already tight despite housing some crew some distance away in cheap motels. So despite post killing comments by Arek the project was having serious money problems. Increased pressure from many sides showing his inability to manage the film production.
Also recall the utter debacle of his live call in radio show. That opened to great fanfare in the liberal community as the antidote to Rush Limbaugh (as if) Dead air, with Arek asking the producer if the lines were open...and silence...he couldn’t even come up with a monologue...no show prep, the wonderful smartest man could ad-lib to fill the void. Think maybe he ended up calling his mother. Chris Plant went to town on him.
So yeah, I think his internal humiliation at dealing with the reality of his incompetance swamped his Dunning-Kruger affect and he popped.
Given his enormous ego and hair trigger temper wouldn’t be surprised if it was “You can’t quit, your fired...bang!”
He has not learned anything from his latest misadventure.
I’d rule NOTHING out with such a rage-aholic control freak.
Maybe Baldwin himself put the live round in the gun.

I read it, and re-read it. It still says “after his arrest last week”.
Do you have secret information that he was arrested last week? I’m sure the media might have mentioned it, had it happened.
