I worry that current and future generations will have a hard time remembering. If it isn’t posted on social media they will have no idea.

My Uncle survived Pearl Harbor. Best I can figure he served on the USS Chew which was a WWI Destroyer converted to Escort / Patrol Ship during WWII. He had just left the Ship for Shore time when the attach started. My Dad doesn’t recall if he made it back to the ship during the attack.
He saw enough battle that at some point he was sent State side with what we now call PTSD. He was restationed on the East Coast doing guard duty at a Navy shipyard. One of the ships being built at the time was an ammunition ship. I believe it was the USS Mount Hood. When it was completed and ready to be sent to the Pacific he requested to serve aboard that ship.
Back in the Pacific while the ship was loading munitions something went wrong and the ship blew up and no remains were found.
My father was one of them but has been gone for many years.
