This looks increasingly like South Africa is managing the numbers to look “mild” so travel will re-open for them.
They are filling the hospitals with young people. They weren’t going to die vaxed or unvaxed.
What is the status of the 65+ group? Are they dying more often than with Delta? That is the only question of significance.
Announcing that you have a zillion cases who are not dying does NOT say Omicron is mild, when they are 90% young.
There was one report yesterday that said the young people were in the hospital for something else, but tested positive on the in-hospital tests.
