And good for them. A secured firearm might make snowflakes feel safe, but it makes would-be murderers and home invaders less likely to hurt you.
Get a grip.
Here in Michigan, unsecured weapons are not popular in homes with children. I'm about 250 miles north of Oxford...where we take hunting and concealed carry very seriously. We also take gun safety VERY seriously...well, most of us do.
This past summer, within 100 miles of me, there were two gunshot fatalities. Each of the shooters was a child around 5, and each of the two victims were 5. Two different counties, two different homes. Unsecured firearms in both homes. Huge public outcry, much parent shaming, and rightly so. I believe the prosecutors did not charge either set of parents...the parents will have to live with the stupid moves they made that turned their children into murderers...at the age of 5!
This case is different, in that the shooter had access to the gun. He shouldn't have...someone under 18 has to be supervised by an adult to handle a gun.
In our house, all guns (except hubby's and my EDC) were kept in the safe, and only Dad knew the combo. Guns had to be checked out.
Parents need to be responsible! I hope they charge these parents. Gimmee some time, I'll think up some charges! Although, I think the Oakland prosecutor is gonna press hard for charges for them.
Oh, and no one really wanted to talk about gun control today at the prosecutor and sheriff press conference. They made it more about "how the F*ck did this kid get a gun to school?".
Also, no reports of bullying. Parents were called to the school the morning of the shooting to talk about a discipline problem with the kid. They went home, he went hunting.
