Cleveland Amory was a popular author and TV personality who was known for writing about the foibles of wealthy families and individuals from the 1950s through the 1980s.

He came from the Boston Brahmin "Amory" clan and there are a number of semi-famous Massachusetts "industry pioneers" and town founders in his family tree.

His Wikipedia biography, however, does not mention that his brother Robert Amory Jr. was the CIA Director of Intelligence from 1953 to 1962.

Robert Amory was a member of the CIA's executive suite when the Bay of Pigs invasion failed, along with Allen Dulles, Gen. Cabell, and Richard Bissell. (Amory was moved to the Budget Bureau in early '62. The other 3 were fired by JFK [technically resigned between Nov. 61 and Feb 62.])

Cleveland Loved Animals

Cleveland helped found the Humane Society of the US in 1954 (HSUS). The HSUS was formed from American Humane Association (AHA) dissidents who wanted to go in a different direction.

The AHA,(founded in the 1870s) had once been one of the largest operators of orphanages for children, and was focused on treating orphaned children humanely, as well as animals.

As such, it maintained a stance that any attempt to sterilize cats and dogs was a "slippery slope" that would lead to the sterilization of people.

The founders of the HSUS were in favor of the sterilization of dogs and cats and pro-sterilization Humane Societies started to obtain funding throughout the country. (The HSUS was one of the funnels for grants and expertise to regional societies.)

Cleveland Amory, as a semi-famous author and TV commentator helped recruit celebrities for the pro-spaying and neutering cause. (He recruited Doris Day in the 1960s. Doris Day would form her own Societies and help raise money until she died only a few years ago. [Another Rabbit Hole is her son, Terry Melcher, who was supposed to be the original target over the Manson Family.]

The HSUS first President, Fred Meyer (sometimes Myer) was a 1930s newspaperman. He was also a Communist and held Director level positions in various labor unions and pro-Communist Think Tanks funded by Rockefeller Foundation money. He also wrote in favor of pre-WWII efforts in the US to promote the eugenics agenda. (AKA "population control" after eugenics became inseparable from Nazis.)

Connections get stranger when considering where other pro-sterilization humane societies show up after the formation of the HSUS.

HSUS is NOT a humane society (animal welfare).
It's an animal rights organization.

They called themselves a “humane” society because people confuse the word with the work of animal shelters and give them money on that basis.
It has worked hand in hand with PETA for decades.

Animal rights orgs are religious entities. They worship the natural world as they see it. In it animals are divine and humans profane. Because of that they see domestic animals as fallen and therefore work for their extinction.
They hate dogs and cats and promote vegetarianism/veganism endlessly.
