I’ll give her a pass on this one. I took 5 years of Spanish in middle/high school and can’t speak it now.

She probably could understand basic written and spoken French, but wouldn’t venture to speak it in public for fear of making mistakes. That’s pretty typical of North Americans and foreign languages. It’s also standard procedure for politicians to rely on interpreters, both in public and in private.
Je ne sais pas. I studied French in high school for 1 year, and still remember a lot. I took it because the French teacher was a cute blonde with a small red sports car convertible - that's mostly what I remember.
