Ask one and they will tell you the French speak improperly.
If you can’t make it with those......
Is there a French form of Ebonics?
Just askin’
I wish she just used the interpreter rather than looking like dufus. Even a translation app would have helped. State has plenty of translation tools and people available. A DoS aide was likely standing with her with the security detail. Optics is terrible and keeps digging a hole. Intentional?
She seems to have picked up political savvy of a rock though a window. Giggle and carry a big stick. How many folks snowplowed her carrier or carried her water when she was a boss?
How to, uh, ‘kneegotiate’?
I think that she lived in Westmount, which is the elite Anglo suburb of Montreal.
Learning Parisian French, i too find Quebec French sloppy. It’s like southern U.S. English. It’s just nasty.
Then i took lead on a team of people from Haiti. It’s like pidgin!
Until now, Harris has been able to hide her non-existent intellect, and get through her California political career with the help of, ummmm, benefactors, a highly-controlled press and public image, and above all - only speaking in stupid cliches and slogans.
I have a bilingual AirCanada magazine.
Almost all its French is standard French.
Because she’s an Anglophone and she would have gone through the Anglophone system.
Cajun French. I still laugh as a friend who is bilingual English-French(Parisian) tried to understand Cajun. I was even worse when he had to work with island Creole. Fun times. He only got every second or third word. As for Myself, I was at a gas station in south Mississippi and did not even understand what the clerk said even if it was English . I just paid what was on the register.
Good one!
I can’t read Haitian Creole. It is obviously based on French but is radically different. Haiti should change to standard French.
That’s about how much my husband understands me lately. Cannot tell if it is his hearing or my southern Michigan mumble.
Yeah, but we’re you living in a Spanish speaking city?
but at lest she’s been to europe now...
That “English” is used in Canada is only because
the Loyalists escaping from the Revolutionary
Times made it so. They had a special flag too.
The Mel Brooks movie showed it displayed in formation.
See the first race riot in North America etc...
Nice post! But you forgot an important one -
Merde!
As in, “You will not pin this Afghanistan Merde on me!”.
A time-traveler from sixteenth century France would have far more difficulty speaking in Paris today than he would in Montréal.
