“”” China and India have been actively purchasing U.S. sour crude oil produced in the Gulf of Mexico”””

For those who do not know, sour crude has a high percent of sulfur.

I guess it is ok to have China and India refine sour crude oil and pollute their air with sulfur dioxide.

US refineries run sour crude with air emissions controlled just fine as long as they are designed for this feedstock.

Sour crude is commonly blended with a sweet crude to hit the optimum crude oil properties a given refinery runs most efficient at. The blend ratio is also varied to achieve the most economic mix of refined products at the backend.
