What a strange world where the vietcong run country is more friendly to the USA now than the chicoms.
I would not be surprised to see a USA/Nam mutual defense pact in the future. Wouldn’t that be ironic? But the enemy of my enemy is your friend.
I am sure the chicoms are itching for a rematch after being trounced by Nam in their prior border skirmish. But Taiwan is first on the menu.
A good friend has recently married a VN girl whose father owns a Saigon bank. The couple are living in Saigon. John, my friend, is a certified CPA and is now employed at his FIL’s bank. He is delighted to be in VN and considers it more free than the US under our current administration.

***Why not just invade VN now? It would harden up Taiwan’s troops, they’d get one of the largest warm water ports on the planet, and it’s not like the American public is gonna scream about VN falling.
NVA run nation honestly and now more often their kids given the Giap generation are long dead
The north in Vietnam much like in America too views the south as lazier and less industrious and more conservative yet less righteous as opposed to a leftist north

The NVA had tepid respect for the Cong

If you’re referring to the 1979 border war, Vietnam hardly trounced the Chinese. The Chinese showed that they were able to take a good sized city near the border, kill 100,000 Vietnamese civilians, destroy a Vietnamese army division, and afterwards, withdrew back across the border without large scale pursuit by the Vietnamese.
