Santa Cruz County health officer issues indoor mask order starting Nov. 21

Santa Cruz County Health Officer Dr. Gail Newel on Friday issued a health order requiring individuals to wear face coverings when indoors regardless of vaccination status.

The order, effective 11:59 p.m. Sunday , cites increased COVID-19 cases and increased hospitalizations moving into the holidays and winter months.

“Unfortunately, a potential winter surge appears to be a significant threat to the health and safety of our community,” Newel said in a prepared release.

Masks must be worn in private settings, including your home, when non-household members are present, the county noted. Newel said this is to protect vulnerable friends and family members.

The interesting thing about this is that when the results of the “mandate” are reported, the % adherence is never investigated.

It is impossible to compare “mandate” vs “no mandate” states for this reason.

And, based on extensive experience in no mandate NH va mandate MA and VT, it’s my opinion that masks are over.

Costco, mask demanded. Warehouse club, no sign, no comments, but a number of angry looks in my general direction.

Lots and lots of miserable people there who don't realize it.

It's easy to get distracted by the gorgeous scenery and lovely weather.

But for me it was like being a frog in a pot of water under which the heat is gradually raised.
