Cars will be restricted in San Francisco's Union Square after a shocking incident of retail theft on Friday night.
The San Francisco Police Department said in a statement it responded to reports of possible looting and vandalism at several retail establishments, including the Louis Vuitton store, at 8:10 p.m. Additional officers were called to the scene to address reports of crime. The alleged thieves smashed windows, leaving piles of shattered glass across the sidewalk of the store that's adjacent to the Macy's department store.
Burberry, Bloomingdale's and Yves Saint Laurent, among other retailers, were also targeted, police said.
Saturday afternoon, Mayor London Breed and Police Chief Bill Scott held a press conference to condemn the thieves and announce coming changes to Union Square in the wake of the incident.
"We’re going to making some changes to Union Square and how cars are able to access," Breed said. "There will be limited access in terms of when you come to this area."

Someone should spread a rumor the looters are planning an insurrection. That just might get the attention of the FBI.
Are they shutting down the Union Square parking garage? The only ways in or out are on those streets.
Punish the 99% honest people because you hand cuff (like that term?) the police in fighting crime. Want more! Keep voting for Libs you idiots!
Lol!

Oh yeah, that’ll work. Just like the leftists’ gun control laws.
Unless the whole class is quiet, nobody goes to recess.
The obvious that the “elites” seem to miss,
1) if the luxury stores get robbed in a smash and grab often enough, they will eventually close.
2) If you increase the distance your customers have to travel exposed to the miscreants who will rob them on their way in or on their way out, the patrons will not shop there and the store will close.
I hope that SF gets it good and hard. Let these mobs smash and grab what they can, force the stores to close. Let the elites face the consequences of their bad choices.
Get what your vote for.
What did this leftist craphole of a city expect when they turn blind eyes to shoplifting of petty thefts? This batch of criminals upped the ante and went for more gusto. Shoot the looters and watch that crap stop in it’s tracks.
They really know whom to protest!
Luis Vuitton!
If they are so desperate, what about Food City or Dollar store?
Those bad, bad cars. Ban them.
I think the ones which ARE shot (and killed) will be subject to a news blackout.
I’ve started carrying a sharp knife when I go shopping at malls with my wife. I see looters entering a store from a car, the valve stems are all being cut on as many of their cars as I can get to.
This is what passes for RIOTS in the Rittenhouse case.
Shopping malls used to depend on the disposable income of teenagers, the vast majority of which were law-abiding. A handful of thugs misbehaved and instead of just banning thugs (cuz that's racist) malls had to implement curfews and chaperone policies, effectively driving away the very customers that kept them in business.
As usual. Punish everyone else for the action of “teens”

Hey dumb ass mayor, how about you limit criminals in San Francisco, rather than limit cars from driving through Union Square?
Total idiot. I lived there, the streets going past Union Square are main roads.
Back in the olden days, a shopping mall was a safe place for teenagers to go meet their friends and hang out. A suburban mall would have several anchor stores, other smaller stores, restaurants, maybe a movie theater or a skating rink. It would be a good place for a family to visit, disperse, and meet up again later.

Sun Valley Mall in Concord (not far from Walnut Creek) was such a place. No high-end stores, anchor tenants are now Sears and Macys. Thugs are less likely to visit there.
