SALEM, Va. (WSET) — Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin thanked voters for their support and laid out his goals for day one in office at a "Thank you" rally in Salem Friday.
...
Friday, he also included what he will do about the COVID-19 vaccine mandate for employees of the Commonwealth.
"I want to make it clear. On day one, I will rescind the executive order mandating that government employees have to get a vaccine and have to wear a mask," Youngkin said.
He also said he will rescind any requirements for children to wear masks in schools.
Governor-elect Youngkin said he doesn't believe in mandating the vaccine but encourages everyone to get it.

“Let me just be clear I’m gonna choose every authority that I have as governor in order to combat what I believe are not correct mandates and therefore I’m gonna rescind them. And let’s just be clear I have three big principles. One, there should be no state government mandates. Two, in fact people should not get fired from their job for not getting the vaccine. And finally when it comes to children, parents know best for what’s right for their kids when it comes to their education and their health. And therefore I will rescind Executive Order 18 for state employees, they will not be mandated to wear masks or get vaccines. And I will hire, I will appoint a new health commissioner and we will rescind the public health order that requires kids in K-12 education to wear a mask in order to attend both public and private schools. And then finally, I will work with our Attorney General Jason Miyares and we are gonna push back in what I believe is an unconstitutional position from Joe Biden that employers with more than 100 employees mandate their employees get a vaccine otherwise they have to fire the employees. We’re just not gonna stand by and let this happen. And so I just wanna be really really clear, this has been my position, this continues to be my position, that we in fact are going to respect the individual ability to make these decision with regards to the vaccine and particularly with parents’ ability to make decisions with regards to their children.”

It looks like the dumbs got played by grifter blogs (looking at you National File) and leftist "journalists."
BWWWWWWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHHA!
The tears of unfathomable sadness from the “IZ NOTTA VOTINGZ NO MOARH!” and “DERs NO DIFFWENCES BETWEENZ THEM” crowd taste so sweet.
That is news I would like to see coming out of Salem Oregon.
So WHO put out the fake news that he was going to continue all of this? That was obviously a lie.
Or did he change his mind??
There’s Fake News???? Who’d a thunk it?
A grifter blog that was using it as click-bait.
As I mentioned in another thread (and this goes over the heads of most of the dumbs)
Virginia is a Dillon Rule jurisdiction. Localities don’t have to power to do ANYTHING, mandate or not, unless the general assembly specifically grants them the power to do so by law.
Even the power to enact local dog ordinances has to be delegated to the local government from the General Assembly.
Youngkin has always made clear that no mandates would be coming from the State. That drastically limits what local governments can do.
The mandates that do exist, exist because they were imposed by KKK Northam by EO.
Northam issued EO 18 which mandated vaccines for all State employees, and had his health commissioner issue a statewide school mask order.
So when Youngkin comes in and removes those two orders, most of the mandates in Virginia go with them.
Local government is very limited in Virginia. Probably more so than any other State.
He never changed his mind. His position was always very clear. The dumbs were too stupid to comprehend what he was saying because they don’t know the difference between a Dillon Rule jurisdiction and a Home Rule jurisdiction.
Maybe he got backlash.
Who put out this lie?
The purveyors of clickbait - this site is drowning in it.
Youngkin is not a fire-breathing MAGA type, but he is doing what he said he would do and he is far better on this issue (and others) than the corrupt Clintonista.
FR, like everyone on the political right, should still be savoring the win in Virginia. Instead, the day after the election we were subjected to endless click-bait tearing the man down. He is not a national candidate by any stretch for me on his positions, but overall I still believe he was a solid win for my ideas and beliefs as a non-Virginian.
How do you get backlash for the same position you campaigned on?
Honest question....
I heard all along that he would NOT have any vaccine or mask mandates. I never heard him say otherwise.
There are people deeply invested in defeat and doom. Any victory deeply saddens them because it shows America isn’t dead yet. They want America dead and believe that they can live out some fantasy CW2 after which they can kill all of their enemies and peace on earth will exist. (Just put the bloody war part out of your mind.)
There are others who are paid trolls who are using a divide and conquer strategy.
The are others still who are professional grifters and use rage and anger to drive clicks.
Some would say he updated his messaging in response to actual conservative pushback.
Until January, VA is still a one party state. It is unbearable. I can not imagine what things would be like if Terry McAulliffe had won again. I think Youngkin is a solid guy, hope I’m right. He likley will govern as more of a centrist given the demographics. But, hey, at this point, I woudl have voted for Jeb Bush over McAullife—and it kills me to say that.
He’s always said he woudl not have vaccine/mask mandates. Even if he had initially—like a year ago or even 6-8 months ago, given the fluidity of this issue, I w9udl not hold it against him if he changed his mind. Regardless, glad he’s against them.
Had it not been for three more moderate Democrat Senators, Virginia would be far worse off than it is right now.
Petersen, Deeds and Lewis were the only thing that prevented the most radical stuff coming out of the much more liberal House from being enacted into law.
A lot of bad stuff got passed anyway, but it could have been magnitudes worse.
If McAwful had won, I don’t think that they could have held out for the next four years.
There absolutely would have been a NY style “Safe Act” and a host of other far-left proposals that would have been enacted into law. The people that pretend voting is irrelevant and that there isn’t any difference between the parties are either terminally stupid or democrat accomplices.
With a 21-19 (D) Senate and a 52-48 House, the GOP only needs to pick off one of those three on any given issue to get their priorities passed.
Youngkin appears to be a sincere man who genuinely seems like a nice person. Yes, he has that persona that we often equate to disappointment among republicrats as fire-breathing conservatives, but as you and others have said - He is so much better than the alternative of the Clinton machine grifter who was the other option.
Youngkin was a big win for us. If people don’t want to acknowledge that so be it. I am still smiling about it and good on him for this policy change in the commonwealth. The teachers union is crying over it too and that makes me smile so big my face hurts.
As a resident of a similar state strangled by a deep blue plague 4 hours away I would have campaigned hard for the man. Too many states are dominated by a deep blue city/county. Virginia is certainly one of those. Having certain issues decided at the local level that better reflect my community would be a welcome relief!
There's a lot of people here pissed off that McAuliffe didn't steal the election like they promised he would.
He said he is not fighting the local vax and mask mandates in schools. He said that. Not fake news. His supporters in northern Virginia are NOT happy about it and applying major pressure. He came out again with this statement to try to calm the waters. It still appears he is not going to fight local mandates for school kids, as this clarification indicates again, that he is simply rescinding the current governors statewide mandates but fails to address action against localities imposing their own mandates.
