'When you enter the shop of a gunsmith, what the heck do you expect to see?' asks Kotanko family lawyer
Hearing about Rodger being near guns wasn't unusual — he was a world-renowned gunsmith, known as one of the best in Canada and someone local police officers trusted to fix their firearms, according to people who knew him....
...But hearing his brother was hurt had Jeffrey rushing to Rodger's home on Port Ryerse Road.
By the time he arrived, Rodger was already dead — shot in his workshop next to his home, according to friends and family, and then taken away by paramedics.
What exactly occurred has prompted an investigation by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Ontario's police watchdog, and, two weeks later, many unanswered questions...

The world just lost argueably one of it's greatest smithys.
RIP Rodger Kotanko
Not only that, it was an out of town police force (Toronto) and they didn’t notify the local cops, some of whom were customers of the dead gunsmith. Perfect alibi for the Toronto cops. “He was reaching for a gun”, in a shop full of guns. The Local police could have simply gone in and asked him to step outside. At least it’s not America so CNN was given advance notice.
Damned jackboots at it again.
swat came with an ambulance
they always bring an Ambulance with the raid team, but it’s not for the Victims.
Trudeau has vowed to outlaw all pistols.
I’m not interested in justice or accountability.
Life is all we have and it should not be stolen so easily.
Mistakes by police agencies should not and cannot be tolerated.
The same goes for mistakes by military regarding nuclear weapons.
or Nuclear Laboratories.
...and if you look at history and statistics, you won’t find many that involve death through a mistake. Not compared to Covid at any rate.
So what’s with the incessant toleration with police gunning down the innocent. Well excuse my slip of the tongue but innocent until proven guilty in a court of law may not apply in Oh Canada. I just don’t know.
This death was preventable. So why did it take place?
Why should it be tolerated?
Canada is a police state now. Damn shame!

Pass it around
I would appreciate a ping to any update on this story.
This is a very weird raid.
Everywhere is a police state.
The Police murdered him because they could. Just as they will murder you and me when the urge to do so strikes them. Or they are ordered to. The point that they brought an ambulance is proof that they intender to murder the guy. They [the Police] did not wish to bring a hearse because that would be too obvious. One transports arrestees in paddy wagons. One transports dead or seriously injured arrestees in an ambulance.
What you say may be true, Mark and I believe it is. But the damn people support it [the outlawing of pistols] Proof of their support is that they that they voted for the son of a bitch.
Sadly so.
Decades of brainwashing.
This was a hit!
This is a truly bizarre incident that cost a man his life. That can’t be undone. But it warrants very public scrutiny because it makes no sense. Lots of questions need to be asked, such as: why make a dynamic entry to search for guns? I mean you can’t flush a gun! If gunplaywas a threat, then why not grab the guy at the gocery store and take him back to his shop? And a call to the local constabulary might have clarified much of what was unknown about this guy and alleviated a lot of anxiety. JMHO, of course, but without further details, this was an unnecessary and tragic loss of life!
No knock. Knowing he’d be in his workshop surrounded by guns so an easy claim he was reaching for a gun. Brought along an ambulance. Customer or not or another cop? Likely knew his wife wasn’t there to be a witness. Very suspicious it was a hit.
Tried to look up the origin of his last name. There are less than a dozen world wide. Half a dozen in Canada (he was listed so now 5) and less than that in the US and Czechoslovakia. At first, I thought it was an indigenous name and Canada has a bad habit of disappearing them and LE can’t be bothered with the cases.
They traded in their brown shirts for black/blue.
Police today are the standing army the Founders warned us about. I really want someone on here to try to change my mind.
Everywhere,,,
Absolutely the correct term
.
“Trudeau has vowed to outlaw all pistols.”
Didn’t someone a few years ago use a revolver to protect their parliament from a terrorist?
