I am all for bringing critical chip manufacture to the US, and general US Manufacturing strength in everything else.
After the Winter Olympics in Beijing the US should immediately issue visas to Taiwanese chip engineers and technicians. Seriously.
We will find out who has them more robust industrial base during a protracted naval war with China. We sink a PLAN ship they replace it with 5. They sink one of ours and we are lucky to replace it at all...

I predicted some time ago that Russia and China will launch concurrent attacks — as to time, not target — before 2023: Russia (with Belarus, probably) will attack Ukraine; and China will attack Taiwan.
