The state of Washington has not been faring well recently when it comes to deaths involving COVID. According to the CDC, 75.2% of the state's population age 12 and older is fully vaccinated. For those age 65 or older, the percentage is 90.3%. And what do we currently see? Things appear to have taken a turn for the worse starting this past August 2021.
Specifically, the state of Washington incurred 166 deaths involving COVID in July 2021, a decrease of some 43% compared to the same month a year before (i.e., July 2020, when the state experienced 292 COVID deaths). In August 2021, however, the state of Washington experienced 653 COVID deaths, a 125% increase compared to August 2020 (i.e., when the state incurred 290 COVID deaths).
This trend continued into September 2021. Washington incurred 1,179 COVID deaths this past September, a notable 562% increase over September 2020 (when there were but 178 such deaths).
As for the data for October 2021, there have been 738 deaths reported so far, compared to 248 for October 2020.
The 1,179 COVID deaths in September 2021 represents the highest monthly total for the state of Washington since the pandemic began some 20 months ago, surpassing the 938 deaths the state incurred in December 2020 and the further 787 deaths Washington saw in January 2021. The 738 COVID deaths reported so far for October 2021 puts last month fourth on the list. August 2021 comes in fifth.
If the vaccines work to "prevent death," one might have reasonably expected to see COVID deaths decreasing, compared to this time last year, when no one had been vaccinated. But, for whatever reason, that isn't what the data show.

You make a good observation. The only thing that I would add is that the data in this state is hopelessly skewed and not reliable in any normal sense of the word. One would think that the inconsistency that you have noted would cause them to skew in a different direction, but their only hope for the next election is to keep the panic going.
