Friday night is a great night to go out with friends, drink, eat, play around, and generally goof off. It’s decidedly not a night that most Americans pay attention to the news.
The government knows this, which is why they usually announce really bad news on Friday night. Such was the case this past Friday evening when the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced a shocking 14.5% increase in Medicare premiums for seniors.
It’s OK, though, says the government. Social Security has increased its payments to seniors by 5.7%, so everything is going to be alright.
Is it?
Bideninflation is running at an annual rate of 6.2%. Medicare premiums are increasing by 14.5%. The Social Security cost of living adjustment is only 5.7%. I know that math is supposed to be racist and everything and that there is no wrong answer, but it looks like senior citizens are getting royally shafted.
CNN:
It “will consume the entire annual cost of living adjustment (COLA) of Social Security recipients with the very lowest benefits, of about $365 per month,” said Mary Johnson, a Social Security and Medicare policy analyst for The Senior Citizens League, an advocacy group. “Social Security recipients with higher benefits should be able to cover the $21.60 per month increase, but they may not wind up with as much left over as they were counting on.”
Medicare premiums have typically increased at a far faster rate than Social Security’s annual adjustments, the league said. And much of the 2022 increase in Social Security benefits will be eaten up by inflation, which is also rising at a rapid clip.

My wife and I are both almost 68. We have medicare plan A only. It’s free with SS. Ans most medical insurance nowadays has a hefty deductible, making it not worth the cost as far as we’re concerned. We trust the Great Healer for our health care. He has been faithful.
Most of my Part B premium is paid for by my Medicare Advantage plan. IDK how much, if any, they will increase that.
With my increase in SS, I graduated from Road Kill to ALPO!
Then they took out for Medicare.
Now I’m back to Road Kill.;-)
which advantage plan do you have?
The only solution is to go to Mexico, walk back across the border and put on a Cisco Kid or Pancho accent. Then Biden will send you $450,000.
Ultimate Premier in Florida. Pays $110 of Part B... until 2022. Then... IDK.
It’s free with SS
No, you already paid for it so it's not really "free".
Regarding paying for medicare Part B and/or a prescription plan, keep in mind that if you don't sign up for both from day one of age required medicare and you decide at a later date that you do want medicare part B and any prescription coverage you will pay a penalty. It's not a one time penalty. You will pay a higher premium for both B and prescription coverage for the rest of your life as the penalty.
Welcome to libtard accounting logic 🤪
Works the same with minimum wage increases where everyone pays more and hires less.
Yes. Two things:
When I say it’s free, what I mean is that there is no cost NOW. It’s part of SS and does not affect my payout.
Regarding the higher cost if you wait, yep, we looked into all the pitfalls of not getting it. The longer you wait, the higher the monthly payment when you DO decide to do it, if you ever do. We trust the Great Healer for our health care and also take care of ourselves and stay healthy. i.e. we are “self/God insured” and do our part, trusting Him to do His. :)
BTW, we have two miraculous healings, not including all the things that can not be “proven” to be miracles.
My supplemental plan is zero cost. But, 99.9% of my stuff is at the VA.
Kinda what we’re thinking.
Thank for the reply, I just wanted to make sure you knew there was a penalty. Surprisingly a lot of folks don’t. IMO, doing what you can to stay healthy and having faith is a very good route to choose.
My goal is for my wife and I to go together in a fiery crash. 😜
Just the government’s way of keeping us miserable and dependent on government.
Anyone else remember VP Al Gore in 1999/2000 talking about the “LOCKBOX” as he was running for POTUS? He was FIRM, he guaranteed that our benefits were SAFE!
President Obama, as the next ‘D’ leader, “You will save $2,400 per YEAR with my Health Plan!” and “You will keep your doctor!”
Now President Biden, who just last May, said; “The reason I’m going to do this is because I keep hearing on the press, ‘Biden is going to raise your taxes,’” he said. “Anybody making less than $400,00 a year will not pay a single penny [more*] in taxes, and we will not increase the deficit either, unlike the last gigantic tax cut, which increased the deficit by $2 trillion.” [* - Psaki revision after gaffe]
Of course, the Medicare increase is JUST A FEE, not a tax, and please ignore the inflation rates as poor Joe is doing his best!
Thanks
This is due to two things: the artificially low increase in 2021, and having to pay for the new Alzheimer’s drug (which doesn’t actually work).
I suspect Congress will act, and tell Medicare to redo the numbers, assuming they will not pay for the drug. This may knock it down to a $12 increase or so.
Of course, single retirees with incomes over $500,000 will still be paying $600 a month for Part B!
So much for these grandiose plans not costing anything . . .
