The Thousand Talents program has paid huge dividends for China, and continues to.

My nephew says most of the top students at his college engineering classes are from mainland China.

Much like the post war Japanese learned manufacturing from US experts like Deming and Juran and then prospered in the vehicle industry.

China is crumbling under its own debt load and so they are figuring that they’ll eventually have to take on the West sooner rather than later as infrastructure in China is fast crashing and so they feel they’ll need to do it now while they still have some money left operate and to wage a quick lethal war or not at all if they wait much longer. Be on the alert and stockpile while you still can.

Those look more like WW1 era aircraft.

The Royal Navy used the Swordfish until 1945, although the last couple of years it was mainly on anti-submarine duty. A Swordfish launched the torpedo that jammed the Bismark's rudders and allowed the Royal Navy to destroy it in 1941.

A story that is told of that encounter is the the Bismark had a modern fire control system for its Anti-Aircraft guns, which greatly increased the likelihood of a hit, when firing at an aircraft moving hundreds of miles an hour, from a ship moving tens of miles an hour. But the Swordfish's attack speed was significantly slower than the lowest aircraft speed setting on the fire control system, making it useless against a Swordfish.

Hell the Australians would probably welcome the liberation from their government.

China’s economy is on shakey legs and their population is shrinking. I believe a lot of the rhetoric coming from Xi is covering up how precarious they actually are.

I think you're right but that doesn't make the situation any less dangerous.

True, Revel.  China Joe and Xi Jinping the Covid King -- recently self-nominated "Almighty and Everlasting Ruler of the Middle Kingdom and its Global Satellite Nations" -- have indeed an excellent relationship.  But it's really no surprise.

They both climbed the ladder of success via a loquacious, back-slapping political-hack-to-National-Ruler ascension.  Both gained their expertise -- not by operating a business or becoming a expert professional -- but through sheer political tricks, manufactured fake news, and muscling out rivals.

Both are blessed with a superhuman thirst for power over their nation's peoples, a skill at extorting and controlling foreign nations, and a benevolent nature that gives generous bribes to family, friends, party henchmen and bureaucracy.

So you see, Basement Joe and Mandarin Xi are just harmless little furrball companions like eeyore and Winnie the Pooh.  They belong to each other.

and as one of his supporters cautions tonight, the cost of conflict with China could be Armageddon.

I want to see the world burn before I die.
