Remember Dan Rather, when caught using forged documents on George W. Bush’s National Guard service, said the documents were fake but accurate.
It looks like Schiff is channeling Dam Rather.

A correction. Rather was not caught using forged documents.
He was caught using fabricated documents. A forged document implies the existence of a real document somewhere.
A fabricated document is one that is simply made up.

Dan Rather was the most hated journalist in Nam, esp. in I Corps, by the Marines.
