Joe Manchin says he has 'no idea' if he'll run for re-election in 2024 after being harangued by progressives for refusing to vote for Biden's $1.85T Build Back Better plan

Senator Joe Manchin has said that he doesn't know whether he will run for reelection when his term expires in 2024, as the moderate Democrat faces harsh criticism within his own party over his reluctance to back President Joe Biden's $1.85 trillion spending plan.

'I have no idea,' Manchin told West Virginia podcast Talkline on Friday when asked if he would run again in 2024. 'I'll make a decision after the 2022 election, November.'

'I wouldn't make a decision yet, I wouldn't make it now,' he added. 'Right now I'm trying to do everything I can to try to find some common sense and middle ground, and we all work together.'

Easy fix Joe, switch parties, right now. Probably could get McConnell to give you your pick of committee chairs.

Then we’d have another RINO.

Um, not just no. He is as drunk with power as every leftist. He votes against them on rare occasions.. usually just kabuki theater. I am sure this is more of the same. He has had both parties groveling at his feet. Enough. He is hailed by his centrist (center left) fans as the most powerful man. We dont need another career politician.

Exactly. Manchin will do what Manchin always does: do what's best for Manchin.

He doesn't care a whit about anything else.

Yes, we would have another RINO. But at least in WV there would be a decent shot of getting rid of him in a primary.

And then get primaried out of office in three years anyway. How is that better?

Why not get rid of him in the general?

It’s West Virginia !!! I think his only hope of staying in the Senate is to change parties, caucus with the Republicans if he becomes independent, get Schumer out of the Majority Leadership position and further help stem the slide to socialism. WV is a VERY Red state and hopefully they will wake up and vote against him if he stays in the Democratic Party. It’s amazing to me they didn’t in 2018. Since I agree he is a grandstander and “only does what is best for Manchin” I hope he’ll start reading the tea leaves sooner rather than later.

Manchin is over 70 and will be closer to 80 in 2024.

It's time to unmoor the houseboat, cast off the lines, and take that round the world -- or at least round the Tidal Basin -- cruise.

In 2024 he’ll be 77. No reason to turn right if he quits. At that age why fight again just to walk the fence? The next GOP POTUS can offer him an ambassadorship in ‘25-win or lose for helping us when it counted. It’s still not decided. Same for Sienema.

If he changes parties he gets primaried out because, as you pointed out, West Virginia IS a very red state. Why keep a turncoat in office when you can elect a conservative instead? His only chance is to continue to put on his phony baloney 'principled legislator' act and hope he continues to fool enough West Virginians that he gets reelected in 2024.

Manchin should de-caucus from the Dems if he is serious about righting the ship...doesn’t have to become GOP to do that.

Do you honestly think that Manchin cares a bit about 'righting the ship'? He's putting on an act that he hopes will get him reelected in a very red state in three years.

But even a RINO would give Republicans control of the Senate. That would be a great thing!

Perhaps you will indulge my post -- my revelation, actually -- from another thread yesterday as it applies here.

**********
The loss of confidence in our electoral system ("the peaceful transition of power") and the use of powerful bureaucracies such as the DOJ, FBI and the IRS to name but three by the nation's chief executive, coupled with the fear, hysteria and cowardice throughout a significant portion of America that continues into a third year -- abetted by those in positions of power and influence to serve a political end -- have ripped massive holes in America's social fabric, a fabric fragile to begin with.

It occurred to me there is one man -- one! -- a man who stands a center stage; a man who has the power to stop this unrelenting, savage attack on our Republic in its tracks, Joe Manchin.

Unlike Mike Pence who stood on that same center stage just ten months ago -- a man who could have been, literally, a hero to our American Republic by simply accommodating the requests of several states to decertify, then recertify after investigation the results of their elections but who instead chose the path of cowardice and political expediency -- all Joe Manchin would need to do is to announce his switch to the Republican Party; an action that would shift the balance of power -- literally in an instant -- in the U.S. Senate.

It is also possible that, in the wake of Manchin's bravery to stand up for our Republic and our Consititution, just a handful of Democrat representatives in the House would gain the confidence of doing likewise which would shift the balance of power -- literally overnight -- not just in that chamber, but in the Congress ... the entire legislative branch.

What a true miracle that would be ... a clear display of God's love for this country that was founded on Judeo-Christian principles.

While reasonable people would agree with you, these old fossils in the Senate are like the ever-ready bunny.....they just keep going and going at the expense of the American people.... Hell, Grassley is going to run again !! Pathetic !

West Virginia IS a very red state.

Yes, and I shake my head trying to figure out how he won in 2018.
