I admittedly do not know the answer to this, but did not Trump claim executive privilege on the communications with Bannon as an advisor?

I thought that was the basis for his refusal to appear.

Bannon might have had a case not to turn over communications with the White House until the executive privilege case is ruled on, but Bannon is a private citizen and doesn’t enjoy any executive privilege himself, and if he is subpoenaed, has to show up.
