I classify most "jernalists" as "failed English majors", who weren't good enough at their native tongue to get a cushy tenured university professorship.

I went to the University of Missouri in 1969-1973. It had an excellent, well-respected journalism school. We all mocked people in the “J-School” as those who couldn’t do anything else productive with their lives and settled on J-School as a last resort.
The “profession” has gotten FAR worse in the intervening 50 years.
