My former neighbor was a well-known Protestant “establishment” minister who touted The Atlantic constantly to me and dumped the copies he had read into my mail slot. I finally told him to stop as I had no desire to read elitist Bolshevism written by “citizens of the world”. I doubt it has changed - I would put my life in the hands of a New Jersey truck driver a thousand times before I trusted one of the “modern” establishment ministers and other readers of The Atlantic, whom I doubt even believe in God.

Back in the late 70’s and early 80’s I subscribed to the Atlantic. Back then there seemed to be a rational discussion of policy alternatives constrained by the amount of tax revenue the government could collect. Now there are no such constraints. There are huge issues now such as open borders, unlimited welfare, covid tyranny, inflation, a plugged port system, energy shotages, a broken justice system. There is no way you could make a rational argument for the current policies. The Atlantic might as well be USA Today.
