Postal Banking Test in the Bronx Yields No Customers

When the United States Postal Service launched a test program in September allowing people with business or payroll checks to get them loaded onto gift cards at four neighborhood post offices, it was seen as a primitive precursor to a postal banking system. But in order for the test to be successful and mature into a pilot, it has to actually be, well, tested.

According to postal employees at Baychester Station in the Bronx, one of four locations nationwide where the test is being carried out, not a single business or payroll check transaction was made between September 13, when the test launched, and October 31.

Do I want to use my paycheck and experiment with getting paid via a government debit card type of set up, when I have the choice of not changing anything at all? No. Hard pass on being part of that experiment. Biden has reminded me of how a very wealthy government can royally screw up a very simple procedure and be in no particular hurry to admit to or correct their blunders.

No one in their right mind is gonna let the post office handle their paycheck...

Now maybe if they would take your money and issue a Forever Paycheck that would always buy the same amount of groceries no matter how long you wait to spend it that would convince folks.

grin

The last thing Americans want is “more government” and less freedom.

The federal government needs a beat down.

Not that many (legal) people get paid by check any more, most get direct deposit. One of my kids gets a check from the small business he works for, and deposits it using a bank app where he just takes a picture of the check.

And what illegal is going to be comfortable walking into a federal facility?

Postal Banking saves the government money because it doesn’t have to hire so many IRS agents.
