Where?
My son was involved in Troop 880 and also a Troop 4__ nearby. Forget the number of the 2nd troop.
Precisely.
When I first heard of DEI, I told my wife that it should be renamed DIE.
I no longer contribute to the Boy Scouts or the Girl Scouts.
Yes, Troops and their scouts have to be “Plugged into” the National organization for the scouts to advance and recognized for their achievements. Everything they do and earned is logged and databased for record purposes.
Those troops and scouts also enjoys the BSA infrastructure and facilities. Sea Base in the Keys, Philmont ranch in New Mexico, the Northern Tier canoe base etc.
However, A Troop is made up of adult leaders and scouts from small communities. Some towns may have 3,4 or 5 different troops. Cities have much more. Within those troops is a culture. It’s folks who live closely to one another and likely share a lot of similarties, (Politics, religion etc). One family will find that they never quite fit in within one troop, but feel more at home in another.
Also, the leadership of a troop and their merit badge counselors have a lot of discretion in how a merit badge is taught. Although the specifics of “Citizenship of Society” (CRT) merit badge has not yet been released, it could be taught as a CRT lesson in one troop, or a lesson in color blindness in another. It really depends on who is teaching it and how they are teaching it.
Like all things school, church, social groups etc - Know what you children are being exposed to and when possible, be involved.
That said, all other Eagle Required merit badges are important life skills. They are required because they are essential to being a productive member of society.
This “Citizen of society” may be seen by some as an asset, but it is in NO WAY a Life skill or essential. They made it and they made it required to virtue signal in the day sof George Floyd. That and their public support of BLM is what made me finally cut my ties with the BSA.
Liberals destroy everything they touch.
“To what extent can the national organization control individual troops?
How are the national organization’s leaders determined?”
I am a Scoutmaster in PA. The national organization puts the material together for the program. We will have to teach the Diversity merit badge, however the badge is written as a conversation. I can have a conversation with a scout on diversity and the result will be a scout that leaves the program with his head screwed on straight.
It really should be Diversity, Inclusion and Equity...or DIE for short..,
Have fun!
The commies will infiltrate and destroy it.
Give them time.
They’re history. A last ditch attempt to be relevant.
To what extent can the national organization control individual troops?
= = =
I am under the impression that Mormon Boy Scout Troops have some different rules or requirements than the standard BSA.
I’ve never confirmed that, but throwing it out there.
Last week I found my Eagle medal from 44 years ago. It is going into the wood stove the next time I fire it up.
Why?
Don’t destroy what was for DECADES a good memory, of Scouts. Why not preserve and promote what it was originally - and, for a century - good, and, wholesome?
Don’t give these evil creeps what they want....to erase the good.
We control what our boys learn... CRT won’t be taught. We already teach and practice inclusion... love em like jesus
Eastern shore of md...
k. Where we were was north central MD. North of Baltimordor.
Are the Boy Scouts still around? I thought they filed bankruptcy.
I went to and graduated from a small private college in the late 70s early 80s. My school had a degree program for those wanting to be professional scouts. I had been a Boy Scout and was surprised that one could get a degree in scouting.
I don’t remember ever meeting him but the recently retired head scout went to my school, I’m sure around the time I was there.
Anyway, I knew a bunch of these guys, we referred to them as “Humies” because the degree program they were in was called Humanics or something like that. Almost to a man they were social outcasts.
