Exactly
“NO CIVILIAN SHOULD EVER BE ALLOWED TO WALK THE PATH.”
This lifelong civilian completely agrees!
I was raised to believe that the grave of any service members was special and the Tomb of the Unknowns is hallowed ground.
The Old Guard (3rd US Infantry Regiment) has remained on duty during hurricanes, Isabel and Sandy, and during cold sleet and snow. They do this out of duty and reverence.
Very doubtful the general public will show any reverence at all. They’ll be too busy taking selfies.
What could possibly go wrong ???
I see no good coming from this. Aside from the fact that it is ultimately disrespectful to the nation, I could see that there might be an opportunity for bad actors to commit vandalism.
Hoovervilles were later.
WW1 ended in 1918, so you are off by a few years
