My question is how hard the Palace and the British press are freaking out over this.

Direct involvement in politics is a no-no, and ESPECIALLY involvement in politics in another country.

The royals might get away with bland statements on global warming or some such nonsense, but direct lobbying of American politicians is another matter altogether.

With all due respect to Elizabeth she is too old to deal with such things properly. Charles is most likely already making the important decisions. He’s a lefty and his judgement is questionable hence why things are the way they are with these two doing as they please.
