There are TWO bills.
BIF and BBB.
BIF is the “bipartisan infrastructure.” Some form of that was always going to pass. I don’t like it, but it was inevitable. President Trump was pushing for an infrastructure bill.
This 1.2 Trillion BIF bill is the one that was voted on and that had the GOP defections.
The BBB “Build Back Better” is the OTHER (originally 3.5 Trillion) (now 1.75 Trillion bill.) The BBB bill is the one with the carbon credits, family Leave, socialist medicine ect...
Part of what was happening in the House was that the “squad” was holding up the BIF and demanding that it be coupled with the BBB, once it became decoupled, they lose their leverage over what can pass in the BBB because they can’t threaten the BIF anymore.
The BBB doesn’t have a SINGLE GOP vote. Hence, Manchin and Sinema hold ALL the cards on what gets put into the BBB.
Since BIF passed, the squad can’t hold that bill hostage anymore because BIF started in the Senate. BBB started in the House and now has to get Senate approval, then go back to the House.
