Besides the obvious realities that you point out there is another impact from Amazon.
Whenever, we look basically online for any product from Walmart, Costco, Home Depot and many other suppliers.
Amazon, somehow shows their price of that item, its cost and delivery time in the upper right side of our monitor or smart phone.
So, do I want to pay more and get a very slow delivery or buy at the best price, get free and faster delivery and a % going to the charity of our choice.
Another excellent point. it is fairly common to see old malls that got demolished and the site turned into a Amazon DC.
They were built with easy highway access for shoppers, which make the site perfect for Amazon and their employees, trucks and delivery vans.
Malls will still be around, but IMHO, only the biggest and best will survive. They need things like Apple stores, Abercrombie and other similar higher-end stores to attract people.
