Any actual combat commands? When was he the commander of the USS Cole, before, during or after terrorists blew part of it up, killing about 16 sailors?

I’m surprised that he didn’t nominate Admiral Rachel (Richard) Levine to the position.
When was our last naval engagement? I think it was in ‘45 on Okinawa.
Where was he supposed to get “combat” experience?
Naval engagements and fire support missions. Korean war, Vietnam - at least the first Gulf of Tonkin attack - Hanoi admitted it. Coastal fire support missions in S. Vietnam and fire suppression missions against N. Vietnam - USS Staret hit with fatalities/wounded. Friend of mine was a light cruiser commander off the coast of NVN and took heavy enemy fire. Grenada. Lebanon 1983 fire support missions against Syrian artillery positions who shelled U.S Marine bases there. Fire support missions against Iraq in support of Desert Storm. My son in law fought there.
Anti pirate missions in the Middle East.
Anti-drug smuggling missions in the Caribbean area.
Possibly fire suppression missions over the years re Libya.
Repelling Iran small boat attacks in the Persian Gulf.
Possibly some minor engagements with N. Korean small vessels during the USS Pueblo capture people period.
None of those are recent enough so he would have had a command.
And chasing down Somali pirates is not exactly taking on the PLAN.
