If so, maybe the dad knew that even “IF” the guy was arrested, he would have been out in a matter of hours..
If not, the guy did what any father would do given the opportunity.

In ordinary speak the car thieves were busy that night breaking into vehicles and stealing stuff.
The legal system frown upon people taking the law into their own hand.
They don’t like their incompetence so blatantly revealed.
We do have hope, though. There was an incident when a father ambushed and killed his child’s rapist and was found not guilty.

As long as the father can prove that is what happened, I really have no problem with it. OTOH, this will be a Seattle Washington jury, so if the father was a MAGA supporter he is toast. If he was a good liberal he would never have been arrested, but then he also would never have done anything about someone selling his daughter as a sex slave.
