We asked our lawyer if they could take out your home equity. Yes they can he said but it would soon be clear it was fraud and your home equity would be put back. The bank or lender would be the same be losing out.
He said banks are now starting to put in safeguards.
The real fraud is against the lending institution. The fraud against the lender can not obligate me to repair the fraud that I was not a party to.
