ANALYSIS: Murphy Wanted to Increase Taxes By $1.2 Billion More Than Massive Enacted Tax Hikes October 29, 20214 min readDoug Kellogg During his first term, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy proposed over $4 billion in tax hikes, succeeding in increasing taxes by over $2.7 billion on New Jersey residents. That means Governor Murphy wanted more than $1.2 billion in tax hikes that were left on the table – another billion dollar-plus burden for Jersey residents.
“Governor Murphy drastically increased taxes, and his agenda shows he wanted to take even more hard-earned dollars from the pockets of New Jersey families and businesses,” said Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist. “The Governor’s actions are a huge red flag that more will never be enough when it comes to tax hikes.”

This is what happens when you reach a critical mass where a majority of voters don’t pay taxes - or are paid by them. NJ is packed with both.
