What this means is that Microsoft will make less money licensing SQL.
SQL licensing is insane. The weirdness and cost of figuring it out is enough to make one wish to drink a lot of alcohol.
PostgreSQL is a very solid database. It performs decently, has good transaction handling, a nice programming language, and it's free. Hard to argue with that.
Heh, I don’t doubt all that...Oracle is supposed to be very, very fast and good, but I understand they get their pound of flesh as well, plus your internal organ, plus all your worldly possessions.
I work in an enterprise, and they are traditionally loathe to deviate from the monolith since they apparently keep in mind “Nobody ever got fired for choosing Microsoft”!
