There was no “lay-off” for workers. A lay-off implies the worker is eligible for un-employment benefits. Workers were to be fired.

Also, there’s the issue you mentioned, which is none of the so-called vaccines are approved, they are all experimental. I can tell you, that at the company I work at in a Southern state, there is a significant fraction of us who will not take their witches brew under any circumstances. My company has already signaled that they will be accepting religious and medical exemptions. We can beat this.

A dull realization must have set in with the Administration that pushing the vaxx mandates and firing workers might just be the final nail in the coffin that drives the economy into recession. It’s too late anyway. it’s going there and the equally clueless Fed has no ammo in the form of lowering interest rates to fight it.
Crippling domestic energy production. Enforcing draconian vaxx mandates in a tight economy. Pushing stimmies which disincentivized people from working and drove up demand and inflation. Keeping interest rates too low which resulted in hyper-inflationary demand on housing.
The Fed has successfully done everything wrong.
